1) First cleaning after installation

It is a task of the installing contractor to hand over the floor in a tidily brushed and clean condition. It must be particularly ensured that the works oiling is not damaged by any cleaning work undertaken that is related to the installation. When this was done (active cleaning), then it is an obligation of the installer, to return the floor surface to the condition in which it left the works (re-oiling).

When slightly soiled (loose dust only): Remove the dirt by sweeping and vacuum cleaning.
Normal soiling (usual installation dirt): Cleaning with Vital Floor Soap.
When excessively soiled (grease stains, grey scaling from installation glue, etc.)
1. Deep cleaning with Vital Active Cleaner.
2. The treatment is with Vital Maintenance Oil natural or white.

Use Active Cleaner only when it is really necessary to do so. You must always oil after an active cleaning. Whenever possible always use the mildest form of cleaning.

2) First Maintenance

Although tilo floors are ready for use, a first maintenance is recommended after installation. This first care treatment leaves a protective film on the surface of the floor and penetrates all the small installation joints. This applies mainly to conifers (spruce, pine and larch) witch are strong adsorbent and also on all bevelled boards.

The surface, joints and bevels are both toughened and protected against dirt and dampness. This is, always the best first care for oiling which offers just after the installation. It the first care treatment is not specifically ordered as a service of the floor installer, then it is the responsibility of the customer.

Prefered First Maintenace: The treatment is with Vital Maintenance Oil natural or white. For strong use Vital Basic Oil natural or white.
Only for few use and slicky surfaces: The treatment is with Vital Floor Soap.

3) Regular cleaning and care

Regular cleaning should be done in accordance with the level of soiling and the individual cleanliness requirement. If possible dry cleaning with broom or vacuum cleaner. Only if it becomes dirty or is required should a wet care with Vital Floor Soap be carried out. Regular cleaning should be done with a damp cloth only. Too much water may damage your floor!

When slightly soiled (loose dust only): Remove the dirt by sweeping and vacuum cleaning.
When soiled: Cleaning with Vital Floor Soap.

4) Refreshing the surface

An oiled surface becomes “worn“ with use, so that the maintaining of an intact surface capable of being subjected to wear is kept up by the regular cleaning. A refreshing of the surface is to be made only when dirt trodden into the care film, partial scrubbing, often maintenance sequences are needful or the surface is foged.

Refreshing when greatly soiled (required only rarely)
1. Remove dirt by sweeping and vacuum cleaning.
2. Deep cleaning with Vital Active Cleaner. Application and Information Vital Active Cleaner see below.
3. If its necessary level the color with appropriate tilo Vital Care Oil or tilo Basic Oil by colored surfaces – at small areas or total.
4. After drying treatment the total floor with Vital Maintenance or Basic Oil natural by strong use. Application and Information Vital oil see below.

Treatment of small dirty marks

For a partial repair the area should be in a small size sanded – last sanding is fine (on 180 grain). With handy craft level colored surfaces with colored Oil – one time or more often at the area.

The body of the origin surface will be obtain by Vital Basic Oil – one time ore more often at the area. At finishing oiling the whole surface. Between the several oilings ensure the hardening.

Absolutely colored levelness could not ensured because it dependents of the handy craft and of the darkening by the sunlight. Gloss differences by the partial repair adjust by use and care. With fine steel wool the differences can be brought into line with end hardnesses of the last oiling just after this.

Advice to keep the value of the floor

An air humidity between 40% and 60% ensures an optimum room climate that is not only favourable for the health and well-being of people but also for tilo floors. During the heating season in winter this value will not be reached all the time, which may lead to the formation of gaps. Therefore, avoid excessively dry air by using humidifiers and arranging indoor plants.

Our advice: Put felt pads to furniture legs and mats under swivel chairs. To reduce dust and sand inside living quarters place doormats in front of and behind the entrance door. Heavily used surfaces (public places, working areas, kitchen workplaces, etc.) shall be revarnished before they are worn through.
